Accepting Ourself

According to Osho, emotions are an intrinsic part of our life experience and are linked to our individuality and personal history. However, we often feel compelled to display certain emotions to conform to what is expected of us or to meet the expectations of others. In this way, we end up denying our true emotions and losing touch with ourselves.

To live authentically and at peace with ourselves, it is important to learn to recognise and accept our emotions, even the difficult or unpleasant ones. This process requires pity towards ourselves, that is, the ability to be kind, understanding and loving towards ourselves, even when we make mistakes or feel vulnerable.

Mercy towards ourselves does not mean being permissive or indulgent, but rather having a compassionate and understanding attitude towards ourselves. It means accepting ourselves for who we are, with all our weaknesses and imperfections, and having the courage to face our emotions and problems honestly and openly.

Furthermore, mercy towards ourselves allows us to be more willing to offer love and understanding to others.

As Osho says, ‘If you have no love for yourself, you cannot offer love to others. If you don’t have a glass of water for yourself, you cannot offer one to others’. Love for ourselves allows us to be more open and willing to offer love to others, thus creating authentic and meaningful relationships.

In conclusion, mercy towards ourselves is essential to live authentically and at peace with ourselves. It enables us to accept and understand our emotions, to be honest with ourselves and others, and to offer love and understanding to others. Learning to be compassionate towards ourselves is an ongoing process that takes time and practice, but will ultimately enable us to live a more satisfying and fulfilling life.
